Gray Matter Architecture is a small design-oriented architecture firm, located in Santa Monica, California. Melinda Gray, AIA, is the founder and principal of Gray Matter Architecture. Established in 1985, the firm has built a collection of finely-crafted work throughout the Los Angeles area. The use of pure geometrics, which are juxtaposed and interlocked, is clearly visible throughout the body of work created in the last 15 years.

Melinda Gray completed her Master of Architecture at UCLA Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Planning in 1982. A licensed architect in the state of California, she has more than 15 years of experience with small and large scale projects in the LA area. Her experience includes the design of sound studios, stages, and offices, retail stores, a medical diagnostic clinic, UCLA hospital renovations, a preschool renovation, and numerous new residences, remodels, and additions. She has won awards from the Los Angeles Business Council. In addition, she was selected in 1998 by Los Angeles Business Journal as one of LA's 25 most well-regarded architects. Her work has been published in local, national, and international magazines and journals, as well as International Yearbook of Architecture, Guide to the Architecture of Southern California, and West Coast Wave.

Gray is personally involved as the head designer and architect for every project in her office. As principal, she manages the work load so that she can give the required blocks of time to the project's development and be available for each client's needs. This ensures that the owner receives personal attention and that the quality of work is to the highest standards of design and originality.
